JANUARY MEETING NOTES

At our January meeting, the membership voted to extend our western boundary to include 4th Avenue. It was also decided and voted upon that the newly elected officers from our October meeting would keep their positions this coming year.

B.J. from Tucson Clean & Beautiful contacted the Association to inform us that the original group responsible for adopting Mansfield Park would continue with their commitment. Thanks to all of you who volunteered to help with this potential project. Although we are not officially responsible; I know there is a number of us that will continue to pick up at the park.

Cara Curtis from TPD-Operations West spoke of the safety assessment she conducted at the park and the adjacent apartment complexes. The main issue she found was a lack of sufficient lighting. The Mansfield Park Neighbors Coalition has submitted a plan to Tucson Parks & Rec to increase the lighting. To date the proposal has been well received by this department. However, there are funding issues to be resolve. The Mansfield Park Neighbors Coalition is a group of businesses & neighborhood associations in the area of Mansfield Park interested in working together to achieve common goals. Primarily, the function of this group is to provide more improvements to the park area. [Jan 2006]

PARK SURVEY

The Mansfield Park Neighbors Coalition includes businesses and neighborhood groups surrounding the Park. The Coalition has designed a survey for the Northwest Neighborhood Center. This survey is being circulated to determine what programs and activities the residents in the area want to see at the expanded center. The responses will be given to the Program Coordinator at the Center to help design a plan for any future offerings.

NORTHWEST NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER NEWS

Marty Rotter updated us on the status of the park improvements. The “tot lot” children’s playground construction has begun. It is scheduled to be complete by the end of December. Tucson Parks Department and the contractor are currently working on the “punch list” for the gymnasium.

Marty is also interested in hearing from us about the types of programs we would like to see at the center. She also wants to see more active participation in the operations committee by the residents in the adjacent neighborhoods.
