WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR OLD CHRISTMAS TREE?

The nearest treecycle area for our neighborhood is located at Rillito Race Track on First Ave. just south of River Road. The recycling area is in the east parking lot. The lots are open daylight hours 7 days a week.

HAVE YOU SEEN GRAFFITI?

If you notice graffiti in the neighborhood, please call 792-CITY (792-2489). This is the City's graffiti hotline. When you call to report graffiti please provided the specific location, whether is on commercial, public or residential property. It is also helpful to identify the type of surface (i.e., block wall, wooden fence, concrete surface, etc.). They will also ask if the surface is painted or not.

JULY 2006 MEETING

Our July 11th meeting was well attended. Thank you to all present. We had two patrol officers attend as well. Concerns were noted by the officers. They will be attending regularly. If you have any police concerns, contact officer Kara Curtis at 791-4467. She will relay the info to our beat officers.

Katie Bolger from the Ward III office updated us with the current happenings there. Ward III is working on getting the RTA Committee in place. They are also working with TPD Operations West to expand a trial program known as "Knock & Talk". This program was very successful in the Amphi Neighborhood. Katie also mentioned that our application with the Drachman Institute is still active. This application is to have the Institute design additional amenities to Mansfield Park.

NORTHWEST CENTER OPERATIONS COMMITTEE

The Northwest Center Operations Committee is looking for volunteers to become members. The Operations Committee is the representative resident body working with the NW Center Supervisor to provide community input in the design of activities desired by and helpful to the service area. This is your opportunity to shape the programs that take place at the center.

PARK UPDATES, MAY 2006

1. Mayor Bob Walkup has funded an extension of the walking track. The extension connects the walking track to the west parking lot of the Northwest Center. This makes the walking track entirely within the boundaries of the park.

2. A high visibility crosswalk was added to the west side of Mansfield Park. This crosswalk provides pedestrians and their dogs a safe walkway to the dog park across 6th Avenue.

3. We are awaiting the additional lighting from TEP. This lighting will be placed at the southeast corner of Mansfield Park.

4. We are planning to submit a proposal for a Neighborhood Reinvestment Grant to add additional amenities to Mansfield Park. Some of the ideas are a splash park, and an interior walking track for the new gymnasium, shade coverings for the pool and children’s playgrounds. Anyone interested in participating in this should email us at elcortez@gmail.com.

PLAYGROUND OPEN!

Saturday, April 1st, 10:00 AM: the long awaited opening of the small children’s playground took place. The dedication ceremony was held at the Northwest Neighborhood Center at 2160 N. 6th Ave. Check out the photos!
