Nw Center Needs Volunteers This Thursday

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

The NW Center at 2160 N.6th Ave. is in need of volunteers this Thursday. Anyone who is available to assist, please consider helping them. Just let them know you are from El Cortez. Thank you to all of you who can help.

Tori, we are having our annual food bank holiday distribution all this month until after Thanksgiving. This came as a surprise this year because for the past two years we have only been handing out fry’s food cards with food boxes. This year, at the last minute, the food bank informed me that they are not giving food cards and that they are giving bulk food instead to be given with the regular food boxes. We are extremely short handed and desperately need volunteers to distribute this food. There will be no perishable foods, however, the food will come on pallets and will have to be bagged before being given out to the public. The food bank truck will arrive Thursday the 8th of November at 1:00 with the food. We would like to have you and anyone who may be able to help us here to be at Northwest at 1:00 PM this Thursday. Any help that you can give will be greatly appreciated.

TPD Request for Park Ideas

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

One of the officers from TPD is doing her “rookie project”. It is part of TPD’s commitment to community policing. These projects help the officers become acquainted with residents in the areas they serve. The project approved for her was to identify “needs” to be done at Mansfield Park to improve the safety for its patrons. She has suggested some additional lighting and proper signage.

She has asked me to inquire of you what ideas you may have. I have thought of installing posts around the open-air basketball court to prevent the cars from doing “donuts” on the new surface.

There is a time limit for her to complete the proposal. Please email me with any suggestions by Tuesday, November 6, 2007.

Voices for Education Town Hall

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

While Arizona is often at the bottom of the list on most childhood indicators, Pima County doesn’t have to be. With the 2020 Vision project, dedicated citizens, community leaders and policymakers can work together to transform Pima County into a community where every child is supported, engaged and educated. We want our young people to be Ready by 21 – ready for college, ready for work, and ready for life.

What are the biggest issues facing young people today? What’s needed to make young people Ready by 21?

Please join us for a Town Hall Event hosted by Voices for Education, a non-profit group that advocates for public education in Arizona, and presented in partnership with Council Member Karin Uhlich and Amphitheater School District Superintendent Vicki Balentine.

We are looking forward to a lively dialogue with parents, educators, nonprofit organizations, and neighborhood residents. We will provide refreshments and you provide the insight and wisdom.

When: Saturday, November 17, 2007, registration begins at 8:30am and the town hall will run from 9:00am - 12:00pm.
Where: Amphitheater High School – 125 W. Yavapai Road
RSVP: Voices for Education – 324-0881 or info@voicesforeducation.org.

We thank you for making time for this important event!
