Our quarterly meeting occurred Thursday night (July 10) at 6 PM.
11 people were in attendance, including the three current officers and two city representatives.

Dates: Brush & Bulky: Sept 1. Next rolloff dumpsters: 1st week of November. Next Association meeting: Oct 9

The first topic was Safe Street Mini-Grants, addressed by Andrea Altamirano, a representative from the city.
There was a lengthy discussion; in summary:

These grants are up to 75k, for traffic calming projects (speedbumps, chicanes, traffic circles )
    Neighborhoods hire the contractor themselves
Projects must show approval from 60% or more of nearby homes
Measures of equity, tree cover, and heat island effect are consulted in grant review
The Ward Offices also have some money available for speedbumps

Next we had presentation and Q&A from Naomi Lee, our Council Aide from Ward 3,
with these highlights:

Street Paving. As noted at the last meeting, this is
waiting for Southwest Gas to complete some work, but if that happens on schedule then
the paving should begin in October!!

Plan Tucson is on the ballot this November. We will
have a presentation on this at the next meeting (in October), in time for the vote. (If this
Plan is not approved by voters, then the existing one stays in effect.)

Street Lights: Our neighborhood (and others) continues to be hit by
copper theft (now twice on 3rd Ave).
Measures are being taken, e.g. filling the electrical boxes with concrete.
Additional funds have been allocated to this in the new fiscal year which started July 1, so
response time should be better.

Additional Items:

Self-serve sand bags are available (for flood control) at the Hi-Corbett parking area
All recycle bins formerly at Ward 6 office have been relocated to Hi-Corbett
For city pool users: The city is conducting a survey to determine priorities: Take the Survey
The now-unanchored trash can at the N Los Altos crosswalk was brought to attention

Lastly, president Jacob Prietto showed potential sites for stormwater-harvesting chicanes, for which grants
could be submitted under the Safe Streets program (above) and also under program run by
Tucson Clean & Beautiful. More detailed information on this will be presented in a later mailing.
