El Cortez Heights Neighborhood Association Annual Meeting
January 8, 2026 | Donna Liggins Center Room 117
Attending: 13 El Cortez neighbors, 2 TPD CSOs, and Naomi from the Ward 3 Office
Topics Covered:
ECHNA has applied for two Green
Stormwater Infrastructure grants, one through Trees for Tucson and
the other through Safe Streets. Both applications cover chicanes
along 2nd
and 3rd
Avenues and are currently under review. We are hoping to coordinate
chicane installation with the forthcoming repaving of our streets.
From the Ward 3 Office, Naomi
noted current city events and programs: Treecycle
Christmas tree recycling
at various locations, Ward 3 Office warming center open 5-9 am on
weekdays, and the RTA Next information session at the Ward Office on
January 22. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the session starts at 5:45
pm.
The TPD Community Service Officers
note a grand total of 4 calls relating to Star Village – far
less than anticipated. None of these calls have been for violent
incidents. The officers encouraged us to report other concerns to
TPD or Tucson 311. Knowing where the issues are – and what
they are – helps TPD set priorities.
The unkempt property at 2310 North
3rd
Avenue is now being handled by Code Enforcement and neighbors report
that some cleanup has happened. However, light trespass into nearby
properties is still a problem.
Lately, we have seen a lot of work
in the park. The original 1995 walking trail is being reconstructed,
as is the playground next to the Liggins Center.
There was quite a bit of interest
in the return of rolloffs and a neighborhood cleanup event. Dates
and details to come.
ECHNA officers were re-elected. President: Jacob Prietto, Vice President: Martha Retallick, and Secretary: Will Nelson.
